Using Mail Merge to Create Your Own Gift Certificates in Word

Want to create a large set of promo codes that you can use for donations, swaps, giveaways, etc without needing to "sell" a gift certificate in Flybook each time? Did you know you can create a series of promo codes in Flybook and then use Microsoft Word's mail merge feature to insert those codes into a template in Word and print those codes on individual gift certificates? Here's how!

  1. If you haven't already done so, you'll need to start by creating a Promo Config
  2. Next, you'll create your actual promo codes. For a detailed overview of what all the settings when creating a promo code mean, see this article: Adding Promo Codes.
Here's a demo video showing you how to create a quick list of promo codes:
  3. After you've created your list of promo codes, you'll export those codes into a CSV file.

That's all that you'll need to do within Flybook and the rest of the steps will take place in Excel and Word.
  4. In Excel, you're going to want to format the list of promo codes to make sure Excel is seeing these codes in a Text format.

Once you've formatted your Excel file, close Excel. Make sure to save changes.
  5. Now it's time to use the mail merge feature in Word to add your promo codes to your certificate template in Word.
