There are three ways tipping can be done in Flybook, each with its own pros and cons.
It's very possible that you determine that using a combination of two or even all three is what would work best for your business and your customers.
"Tip Your Staff" feature: When an account turns this feature on, all guests on a reservation (or they can send it to the lead client only on a per reservation basis) will get an email and a text ~30 minutes after their reservation is over asking them if they would like to leave a tip. They can choose, yes (and then enter the tip amount and their card info), no, or “I already tipped” More detailed information on this feature can be found HERE.

-
Reporting: These tips will show on the “Tip Your Staff Report” under Financial Reports. If an activity had staff assigned to it, the report will include the names of any staff assigned to the activity.
Note: This report won’t show up unless the feature is turned on. -
Pros:
-
Simple reporting
-
Simple setup
-
Great way to get tips after a reservation is completed
-
Tip request reaches out to all guests
-
-
Cons:
-
Not great when someone comes up in person and wants to pay a tip on the spot
-
Doesn’t have any saved payment profiles so the client has to enter in their CC info again
-
Some people feel bombarded that it sends them both an email and a text
-
Neither the tip nor the payment for the tip will show anywhere on the reservation. These tips will only show on the Tip Your Staff Report

Fullsteam Tipping: This tipping option is only available to customers using Fullsteam to process credit card payments. When someone uses Fullsteam they can add tips to backend payments.
-
Reporting: The only report these tips show up on is the Revenue & Transactions report under Financial Reports. They won’t show as their own line item but rather in column Q associated with the payment the tip was added on to.
- Pros:
- A great option for backend tips that people want to pay before a reservation takes place
- Tip amount shows on the payment summary of the reservation
- If you have an EMV device, you can turn on “Provide Tip Options On EMV Terminals” under your Flybook Payment Processing settings, and then when a payment is sent to an EMV terminal the screen on the EMV terminal will ask the customer if they’d like to include a tip and will provide the options of 15%, 18%, 20% or Other (where the customer can enter a specific dollar amount for the tip). Having the EMV terminal ask for a tip feels less weird than a human behind the counter asking for a tip.
- Cons:
- If any part of the payment the tip is associated with is refunded, the entire tip amount will also be refunded
- Must be associated with a payment. You can't use this to charge only a tip
- Not tied to the activity or staff who were associated with the activity
-
- Custom Line Item/Product: Accounts can also choose to add tips as custom line items or products (either as a flat dollar amount or with variable pricing like 15% of the total reservation). Products can be added to reservations as front-end upsells at the time of booking or at any time on the backend. Custom line items can only be added on the backend.
- Reporting: These tips will either show on the Custom Line Item report, found under Financial Reporting or the Products report, also found under Financial Reporting, depending on how they are added to the reservation.
- Pros:
- Great for taking tip payments in person when no other payment needs to be made on the reservation
- Shows on the invoice of the reservation
- Cons:
- Not tied to the activity or the staff who were associated with the activity
